Study Abroad in Thailand
4 Weeks in Thailand Diving Deeper into Veterinary Medicine

​During the summer of 2022, I went on a study abroad trip to Thailand through LoopAbroad. The experience truly allowed me to explore the world of veterinary medicine in different settings and learn about the responsibilities of a veterinarian as a steward of the Earth.

Effects of cycle gene knockout on mating success of Aedes aegypti
​
Under Dr. Slotman in the Entomology department, I evaluated mosquito mating success with different genetic makeup. Although I wasn't interested in insects before, I found the topic of circadian rhythm genes affecting behavior and survival ability interesting.
​
The project was supposed to be finished in Spring 2020. However, because of an unexpected situation (COVID-19), the project was abruptly transferred into a writing project. Based on the preliminary experiment I conducted in Spring 2021, I proposed a detailed procedure and improvements to the research.
